Respond by 5 August to consultation about Local Government reorganisation

1st August, 2025 - 09:33

Central government is consulting on local government reorganisation in Surrey.

The Surrey Climate Commission welcomes a review of governance, but – given the climate crisis – argues broader change is needed. We call for climate action to be made a statutory duty at local level with adequate resource. Community engagement and participation is essential to meet the challenges of climate change. Effective climate action must be multi-level, through matrix governance from nation to neighbourhood.

The central government consultation closes on 5 August, and responses can be emailed to lgreorganisation@communities.gov.uk, rather than made in answer to the online portal’s more narrowly-focussed questions.

Yet to sign the statutory duty petition? There’s still time!
