Surrey Climate Commission held its end of year Summary Event on Wednesday 4 December 2019 at WWF Living Planet Centre, Brewery Road, Woking.

Climate Forums for key stakeholders

Two Climate Forums were held on consecutive days in November to gauge people's views on what they felt the key areas were in tackling climate change in Surrey.

A healthy mix of individuals was invited from across the private, public and citizen sectors. They were also asked what practices they were carrying out at present and what role the Climate Commission could make in the future.

Have residents in your community been blighted by flooding, or they at risk? Surrey County Council is exploring ways to provide a community-led service, similar to the very successful Home Energy Advice Team (HEAT), for homes in areas at risk of flooding. Surrey Warm Homes Update

Over 300,000 homes in Surrey are poorly insulated, high carbon emitters, expensive to run and at risk of damp and mould. The Warm Homes Local Grant is available to eligible households, providing up to £30,000 of free home energy improvements. Support is also available to those not eligible for a grant through Surrey’s Home Energy Improvement One-Stop Shop.

Local Government Reorganisation Update

The Government has confirmed plans to replace Surrey's current county and borough/district council system with two new unitary authorities. There will be one for East Surrey (covering Elmbridge, Epsom and Ewell, Mole Valley, Reigate and Banstead, and Tandridge) and one for West Surrey (covering Guildford, Runnymede, Spelthorne, Surrey Heath, Waverley, and Woking).

Two funding opportunities are available to support local groups and schools taking action on climate and nature in Surrey.

Community Nature Recovery Grant  

Up to £5,000 (or £10,000 in special cases) for projects that restore habitats, improve biodiversity and create greener spaces. Apply by 7 November 2025.
